On Friday 5th September, our class performed at the Junior School Assembly. We taught our audience how to say different things in Te Reo Maori and we sung a few songs too. We had practiced all week and were all really excited to perform. Everyone did a brilliant job and Miss Hooper was very proud. Thank you to all the parents that came along to watch us, we really appreciated it!
Talent Quest
In the last week of school Miss Hooper and Mrs Allen thought it would be a great idea to have a Talent Quest. We got to choose to perform as a group or by ourselves. A few children did a solo act. We had rappers, dancers, gymnasts, mimes, comedians and artists. We had so much fun practising and it was really neat seeing everybody's hidden talents!
Room 23A Daffodils
In the last week of school, we were lucky enough to plant our very own daffodils which will be growing in our classroom next term. Mrs Bryant visited us and helped us plant them. We hope they start growing soon!
Trip to the Museum
On Wednesday, June 11th we got to go to the Auckland Museum to learn more about Minibeasts. We had a wonderful time exploring the museum and enjoying the classroom session where we got to become 'Entomologists'. We had to identify different kinds of bugs. It was lots of fun!
A Visit from the Bee Lady
On Tuesday we had a visit from the Bee Lady. We had SO much fun and learnt LOTS about bees. We even got to make a candle made from real beeswax. Check out the photos!
Mufti Day
Last Friday we had a school Mufti Day. We had to bring a gold coin donation and we got to wear our house colours. Don't we look awesome!
A Message from Mr Maher!
On Monday, Mr Maher emailed Miss Hooper with a special message for all of the Year 3 children asking us for new ideas to help improve the environment during winter. He told us that if we can persuade him that its a good idea then he might be able to make it happen. Check out his video message below....
What is a Nogard?
Today Miss Hooper read out this description of a 'Nogard'
A Nogard is an animal. It has an oval shaped body. It has a long neck and tail. The top of the neck, back and tail and covered with a row of triangular-shaped plates. The Nogard's head is shaped like a long triangle. It has big eyes and eyebrows that stick out. It also has big nostrils. Its body is covered with scales. The Nogard has four short legs. At the end of each leg is a foot with five toes. Each toe has a sharp claw at the end. The Nogard has two wings attached to its body. These are located behind the front legs towards the top if its back. Nogard's are usually green but change to a deep purple during the winter months.
We had to visualise what it looked like and draw it in our books. Check them out!
Rocket Writing
Today, we did Rocket Writing because Miss Hooper was away on Friday. Congratulations to Ria Harvey who is our champion this week, everyone loved her story!
Mathletics
Today we went to the ICT room and logged onto Mathletics. Miss Hooper gave us our logins, they are the same as last year. We can go on Mathletics every night to practise our basic facts. There is a link on the right hand side of our blog page underneath the 'Maths Games' heading.
Jam Bus Waiata Recording
Last Thursday, Room 23 and 23A were lucky enough to take part in a recording session. We got to sing three Maori waiata which were put onto a CD. Have a listen...
Don't we sound great!
Rocket Writing
Today we did Rocket Writing. Rocket Writing is when you only have 5 minutes to write about a topic given to us by Miss Hooper. You have to try and write something that is interesting for the rest of the class because they vote for the winner. Today, Room 23A thought James's story was the best. Congratulations on being this weeks Rocket Writing Champion!
International Happiness Day
Today we celebrated International Happiness Day!
We have been having a fun day together, you should do the same.
Kiwiana MOTAT Trip
On Friday 15th March, we went to MOTAT as part of our Kiwiana topic. We got to explore the exhibitions, enjoy a classroom session about Kiwiana and go on a tram ride! We had lots of fun.
Assessment Week
This week in Room 23A, we have been doing different tests and assessments. Here are some pictures of us doing our writing assessment. We had to write a persuasion about whether we think the referee is always right. We will do another assessment at the end of the year to see how much we have improved. We also did a spelling and listening comprehension test as well as Miss Hooper testing our reading and maths. Miss Hooper did all of this testing so she knows how to help us and we know what we need to improve on to get better.
Kiwiana
This week for topic, we have been looking at Kiwiana. We had to sort and categorise different kinds of Kiwiana into groups. Take a look at the pictures to see what groups we came up with. There are probably lots more to add that we haven't thought of yet. Can you think of any?
Listening Comprehension
In Room 23A we have been talking about what good readers and good listeners do. On Friday, we had a go at visualising. Visualising is when you create a picture in your mind to help you understand what you are reading. We had to find a quiet spot in the classroom and then Miss Hooper read us a story. While she was reading we tried to imagine what was happening. After she had finished reading we had to answer questions to see how well we listened. We are going to do this every Friday to help us become good readers and super listeners!
Reading Comprehension
We are awesome readers in Room 23A!
This week we have been talking about what good readers do before they begin reading. We used a before and after web to think about what we already knew before we began reading.
W.A.L.T make sensible comments on our class blog.
Leave a comment telling me about your favourite thing to do in Room 23A. Remember to leave your name so we know who wrote it!
Congratulations!
Congratulations to our two certificate winners this week.
Jacob for settling quickly into Room 23A and Vinnie for showing that he values learning by staying focused and on task.
Well done boys!
Data Squares
This week we have been looking at Data Squares as a way of collecting information. Yesterday we had to think of two new questions that we wanted to ask everybody in the class. Then, we were given little data squares that we had to number and cut out. Today, we had to try and collect data from everybody in our class! Next week, we will finish collecting data and then organise our information and make statements about what we discovered.
