Kiwiana

This week for topic, we have been looking at Kiwiana. We had to sort and categorise different kinds of Kiwiana into groups. Take a look at the pictures to see what groups we came up with. There are probably lots more to add that we haven't thought of yet. Can you think of any?

Listening Comprehension

In Room 23A we have been talking about what good readers and good listeners do. On Friday, we had a go at visualising. Visualising is when you create a picture in your mind to help you understand what you are reading. We had to find a quiet spot in the classroom and then Miss Hooper read us a story. While she was reading we tried to imagine what was happening. After she had finished reading we had to answer questions to see how well we listened. We are going to do this every Friday to help us become good readers and super listeners!

This week we have been talking about what good readers do before they begin reading. We used a before and after web to think about what we already knew before we began reading.

Data Squares

This week we have been looking at Data Squares as a way of collecting information. Yesterday we had to think of two new questions that we wanted to ask everybody in the class. Then, we were given little data squares that we had to number and cut out. Today, we had to try and collect data from everybody in our class! Next week, we will finish collecting data and then organise our information and make statements about what we discovered. 

Super Soccer Skills

On Monday, we got to take part in a soccer skills session on the field. We had lots of fun playing all sorts of different games like 'Shark Attack', 'Chains' and 'Cowboys and Indians'. Our coach Sam was really cool and gave us a notice to take home that we could fill out and bring back if we want to join in their after school sessions! 

Day 1 in Room 23A

 

Today was our first day in Year 3. We got to know our new classroom and our new classmates. We have lots of cool new furniture to use.
